Japanese Manga Cake

15 Oct

This cake was so much fun to make! It was for a 13 year old girl’s birthday party. She is very into Japanese Manga and she is taking Japanese lessons. So this cake totally brought back memories for me of living in Japan. I also got to put my writing skills to use and wrote out Happy Birthday Anu in Kanji/Hiragana. The manga figurine was pretty hard to make. I’ll admit she wasn’t perfect but it was another good chance at creating a human figure. I really have to take a sculpting class!

The cake itself is a strawberry short cake! It is sour cream butter cake filled with home-made whipped cream and sliced strawberries then covered in almond buttercream and fondant.

The family reported that they all LOVED the cake and the birthday girl was so surprised when she saw it!
