Bob Saget’s Strange Days

27 Apr

We had an awesome opportunity this past week to make a cake for a reality TV show that was filming in Ithaca!  Bob Saget is hosting a new show on A&E called Bob Saget’s Strange Days.  The premise of the show involves Bob traveling around to misunderstood groups of people in the US and living with them for a few days.  A few examples of the types of groups he’s lived  with are a biker gang and a group of Amish teenagers.  This past week he was living with a fraternity on campus called Seal and Serpent.  One of my box office students is in Seal and Serpent and asked me to do a cake for their formal they were hosting while Bob was here.  This is what we came up with!  The logo on the center is the frat’s crest.  We weren’t at the formal but I’ve been told that the cake was a huge hit!  The episode will be aired in late summer so keep an eye out for the show and my cake!

About the episode…My cake may have to make up for me being a sweaty mess.  On one of the first days they were on campus, I was running on my lunch break and ran right into my student with Bob and the camera crew.  I chatted with them for a few minutes, while slightly breathless and sweaty from running.  So hopefully I didn’t say anything interesting enough to make it into the episode.  I wasn’t even wearing cute running clothes for that matter.  It was very embarrassing.   Thankfully the cake looked a lot more together than I did!

The flavors include golden vanilla with chocolate orange filling and chocolate cake with cream cheese filling.  The serpent is make of rice crispy treats.

Dan and I both worked very hard on this cake.  It would never gotten done without Dan!  He’s really started to enjoy the work I’ve given him…(she chuckles with an evil grin).

We got this in an e-mail from one of the brothers. It was a very nice compliment so I thought I would share.

“First, let me just say how utterly amazing that cake was that you made for our Friday night affair with Bob Saget. I can’t tell you how much we all appreciate your offering to do that for us, and what obvious care and effort you put into it. It was a wonderful addition to the event and our week, and we all, active and alumni alike, are very grateful.
